There are very, very few companies that could pull off a wall or project of this size. Sorry but your local asphalt company is not one of them. These types of projects go to companies like Bechtel not to a mom and pop operation. Building this wall is like building a damn, it is extremely complex and demands that professionals manage it. This is not a project for amateurs or wannabes. If Trump lets some small outfit do it then the wall itself will be a colossal waste of money. He just might though because he wants a cheap wall, a wall he can point to when he goes to the heartland where rubes lap this stuff up like stray cats at a milk bowl.

The republican party and voters don't care about illegal immigration. All they actually care about is a far to expensive symbol and finger pointing.

Go after the people who are most responcable for enable them which is the employers. Then use the same border protection as Israel does an integrated tower system plus drones. Problem solved and it's far more cost effective.

The cheapest soluttion would be to pay the Mexicans to build it, on their side of the border. Cheaper land, material and labour costs. And they have to pay a fine for everyone who makes it to the US.

I was just going to say it, except instead of the Mexicans, hire the illegals waiting to get in.

I'm pretty satisfied based upon information supplied here and online that Fisher Industries isnt some mom and pop outfit. More than capable of this task.

The real challenge is the land procurement. Not from a legal standpoint but more a PR one. There will be no SCOTUS involvement as our thread poster mentioned. SCOTUS has alot of precedent in deferring to the states on matters of eminent domain. So provided the land owners are offered fair market value plus a possible severance? There is nothing anyone can do to stop the acquisition by the government. No idea what all these posts are talking about legal challenges. Hell even if you can argue there is.. Congress can take the land with zero legal recourse too...

    So yep. Wall is incoming.

They use a wall that 440 miles long in a key area not 2000 miles of wall, that would be just stupid of them and a huge waste of money.

Border security matters to them so they depend on drones and sensor towers for the rest.

You guys want to reverse it by using cheaper more effective towers in key areas and a 2000 mile wall to keep out people who build, climb and dig for a living.

Yes because building a wall is as complicated as designing a modern jet fighter.

    Oh I dunno.

Probably the same thing they do with the hundreds of miles of wall that already exist.

No its comparable to the cost overruns in everything single thing the government dose or has designed, like the rebuilding of iraq where billions went "missing" or all the other stealth projects.

Anything where they can buy stock in or already own stock in runs way over.

I wish there were some fiscal conservatives in the republican party, they would understand this concept.

Tell a republican "we need airplane that does war stuff" or "big wall show them who's boss". and they don't care what the cost is or if they are getting us ripped off.

Oh I'm not going to defend government overspending.

I'm simply saying I don't think comparing the F35 project to some dirt roads and iron slats is a very good analogy.

Ar, but the cost over run will be due to not just building some dirt roads but somewhere along the line someone will say something like, "why don't we just add this to the design" and before you know it those dirt roads which would have been suitable will become 8 lane super highways and never finished.

You do realize this isn't the first wall that will be built on the border.

I don't think they're going to be putting giant lasers on top or anything.

No they'll just charge more give less and then there will be a half-ass investigation followed by a possiblity a fine(most likely not) that's a fraction of the profit they make from stealing the money.

    Is it $1.4, or $4.31?

Sounds like Trump has negotiated a terrible deal, which would waste billions of unauthorized taxpayer money.

See post #103, lol (definitely applies to U as well) :)

    Sahba* said:
offering to build 234 miles of President Trump's border wall for just $1.4 billion,

    Sahba* said:
for $4.31 billion, he can build the wall and incorporate paved roads and border technology plus warranty.

    truth and justice said:
In that case they can build that 234 mile section with no more money needed. Will Trump be held accountable if the wall they build is crap? Oh and why state that the cost is $1.4B then state that $4.31B is needed? Is that the new MO, state one figure to the gullibles and then state another much higher figure because what was initially constructed is not capable of doing what was promised? Those hidden costs are huge but not advertised

There are some elementary reading comprehension workbooks my that I could recommend, lol.

This is what 8 do not get about government, if a contract is signed why are they willing to pay more? When I built my house I had a signed contract for drywall and the company misread the plans and came in low. I did not pay one dime more, I reminded him that he was the one who wanted a signed contract and I enforced it.

Oh no, you're quite off on the wrong tangent with that. We want to do it all:

Drones, IR drones, tunnel detection technology, tunnel explosive technology, the wall, no government benefits for illegal aliens, and put employers who put illegal aliens to work in their facilities or outlets in prison.

And as any other weakness is discovered, come down on it harder than hell to plug it.

I do agree that cost overruns on government projects seems the normal and not the exception.

This however has yet to trouble Democrats. Reagan fought back to cut back costs. And the democrats worked hard to prevent him saving us money.

    Bush 43 also craved lower costs. He wanted more bang for the buck.;

A lot of cash was handed over in Afghanistan to enlist them to fight the war for General Tommy Franks. And why not use the Afghani fighters?

Iraq was short of cash. So Bush worked to give them aid. But a lot of aid also came from NGOs. NGOS is the reason for his famous Mission accomplished speech. It was the signal to NGOs to bring their cash in and work to help the Iraqis. Bremer had one mission. To assist the Iraqis. Even his orders were done after he discussed them all with the Iraqis who endorsed the laws. Such as getting out of top jobs the Baath party and to not offer to the fleeing enemy Army benefits like pay or restoring them to duty. Bremer had his hands full since he did not make a move that he had not first cleared it with Iraqis.

No need to get snarky. It is a valid question. Are they looking to built only a wall, or a wall with all the trappings? What would Trump's $8B cover? No one knows.

No one is actually going to hard on employers though.

None of them saved us a dime. They not only spent money on excess prisons and military like a homeless guy who just won the lottery but put it of credit also. bush 43 was the worst of them all leveling iraq so that we would need to rebuild it all of which increased the bush/channy stock portfolio which is obviously the reason why he ignored bin laden to focused on iraq.
