this is a political thread, asking for political opinions. Its probably not the place for me today. I would have rather posted a RIP thread now and waited 24 hours for the partisan petty nasty sniping at his legacy's and character's expense. Good honest man, good public servant, and a hell of a lot smarter policy wise than his first impression. If you really listened beyond the Minnesota colloquialisms and gosh golly vibe, the deeper and more policy wanky, he went into details. You saw it in the Dem primary debates and on the Senate floor. Very smart man. If Mitch McConnell does his usual fake tribute, I will throw up.
Now we lost Pete Du Pont. He didn't try too hard to be President and gave up after New Hampshire in 1988. I think he would have had a very quiet Presidency. With Democrats leading both houses of Congress he would have gotten little done. With regard to Saddam Hussein, he would have been the follower not the leader. We would have gotten that biggest ever tax increase without a whimper, but it would have been harder for Pat Buchanan to challenge him from the right. Perot would have had no agenda to run against him so maybe he would have won a second term.
