As far as the military goes, remember we almost had something like the set up for a military coup under Milley, who had the National Command Center swear loyalty to him and to not take any orders except through him. And of course he committed treason by promising to alert the Chinese to any possible attack by the US. So if the military was that firmly in the pocket of the administrative state then, imagine how much more it is now?

The guy had a concern about how crazy Trump is, and given how obviously crazy Trump is how the Chinese might react, and so took measures to protect the peace, and Trump suggested that guys like him should be executed. Certainly, Trump wishes he could be a dictator, but hasn't figured out quite how to get there.

Saw an interesting program on PBS about what Trump rule 2.2 will look like . It could mean drastic changes to the country as we know it. ( and most of the changes favor HIM and HIS rule)

How a republic/ democracy became dictatorship? Very easy, when citizens of the country allow it. Trump is saying “ I want to be dictator on day one”, and entire MAGA saying “ oh he didn’t mean it”, or “ if he is dictator, that’s ok , he will do what is good for the country”.

 

Same with Hitler. Hitler wasn’t dictator of the fatherland first time he came to power.

 

I was watching a documentary of Germany 1933-1944. Interesting thing, SS officer who were putting jews in oven in 1943 , those same officers were helping jews to leave Germany between 1938-1939 because those officer, despite agreeing with Hitler’s jews view, they didn’t think Jews deserve to die. But by 1943 they accepted the “ final solution of Jewish question”. How quickly Germany transformed from 1933 democratic society to 1943 Germany.

Problem with MAGA, they think none of these possible in America. 99% MAGA don’t want Trump to be dictator, but they don’t mind Trump give EO to change rules so DEMS can’t take control, they don’t mind Trump/GOP change policy so Americans who don’t support GOP can vote. what they lack is the imagination that these can lead to end of democracy.

 

In fact, the MAGA want to establish an authoritarian regime that will push their political agenda into the mainstream.

I met a guy pre Obama that was a staunch conservative that actually advocated for a dictator because he believed that was the only way the constitution would be restored to the original intent of the constitution and original intent of all amendments. Don’t construe that to make it sound as if he was advocating for slavery, there is an amendment that done away with slavery and he believed in all the amendments as well.

 

the documentary you describe is the perfect example of how things can change under a dangerous, pathological, power hungry leader in what is a relatively short time. A small example: but look at how so much of what Trump utters is becoming normalized. It is a gradual conditioning process and it worked for Hitler and others. Trump has a distinct authoritarian nature....... and it is because the system held so far that he has not managed to destroy it more by now. ( even out of power). The man has no filters.
