The former Lt. Governor of Georgia, Republican Geoff Duncan, has announced that he will be voting for Biden in November.

“Unlike Trump, I’ve belonged to the GOP my entire life. This November, I am voting for a decent person I disagree with on policy over a criminal defendant without a moral compass,” he wrote in an op-ed

“Donald Trump’s not a Republican. He doesn’t represent our brand. He doesn’t represent our future. He’s a horrible human being at this point, we’re watching that play out hour by hour in the courtroom,” Duncan said. “It’s time to move on. If we’re going to heal as a party and truly get back to doing the things that we should do – and that’s be conservative but not angry or crazy or liars – we should turn the page immediately from Donald Trump.”

“The GOP will never rebuild until we move on from the Trump era, leaving conservative (but not angry) Republicans like me no choice but to pull the lever for Biden,” Duncan wrote. “The alternative is another term of Trump, a man who has disqualified himself through his conduct and his character. The headlines are ablaze with his hush-money trial over allegations of improper record-keeping for payments to conceal an affair with an adult-film star.”

Hear, hear! More prominent Republicans need to say something like this!!!

A large percentage of Trump voters do not really care about Republicans or the conservative agenda. They are enamored with Trump, a true case of cult of personality.
In fact, when Trump was elected in 2016, I hoped that he would be better at president than I thought, and even thought he may be more middle of the road as president, as he is not a true, long time conservative, potentially become like Reagan, who appealed to Republicans and Democrats, in addition to many of the unaffiliated. Had he done a better job of leading the country I would have voted for him in 2020.
However, unfortunately, he dove deeper into the qanon and conspiracy theory realm, and never did elevate America above self.
Disappointing, but not surprising to me.
Trump seems to have come unhinged, starting to really show in 2020 when he lost the election. I did not see him as a 'danger' in 2016, but I do see that he could be very dangerous if he is re-elected, not to mention the setbacks our country will endure with another 4 years of idiocy.

Hopefully more Republicans will see Trump for who he is and make the proper choice.

The MAGA faithful are incapable of the thought process demonstrated by Geoff Duncan. Put him in the column with Liz Cheney and the growing list of Republicans speaking out against the Orange felon. Theirs is truly long term thinking.

Even after 80% of the voters believe Biden is too old for a second term. Just shows what an idiot Duncan is. Clearly way out of touch but certainly is a great fit for Bidenettes.

I agree with you on much of that. I thought that Trump did a really good job right up to when he got Covid and went completely loony. He seems to have leveled out since then but still cannot control his mouth. With all that said, I cannot stand the thought of Harris as POTUS. I can't see Biden making it another 5 years and that would leave us with the idiot. Trump may be in the same boat but there is a greater possibility of a decent VP.

Back when Trump first ran and was looking for his VP conservative columnist George Will said something like "Whoever Trump picks as his running mate will be unqualified simply because they think Trump is qualified to be President"
    The same holds true today.

And Trump is only 4 years younger than Biden...but that's just fine?

Why would anyone think that a VP would have to think that the POTUS is qualified? Over the years, I've had plenty of bosses that I didn't think were qualified. That didn't make me unqualified. I would probably hold my nose and vote for Biden if he would have picked a VP that I thought would be a good POTUS. But he didn't.

When you get hired on at a company, unless you are working directly for the head honcho AND that head honcho is someone relatively famous...you have no idea how qualified your boss is. Also he is already the boss, you coming to work for him is not going to sway anyone to hire him.

When you agree to be a VP candidate you are endorsing the Presidential Candidate. You are saying that I agree that this person should be President and that the people should elect him/her.

Anyone who thinks Trump should be President is, in my opinion, automatically disqualified from holding a position of any kind of authority in our government.

lol..trump will never pick a decent vp. He demands cowardly bootlickers that will devote themselves to worshiping him.
He has never cared about doing what’s best for the country.

Do not want Harris as VP either. She isn't ready for the "big stage", IMO.
I can't fault Biden for running again, as it is always the prerogative of the incumbent, but I wish he had decided to step down.
Biden is not at the top of his game, he is definitely showing his age, but I trust his judgement on the big stuff more than I do Trump, and I do think Biden will put America first and Trump will always be Trump first. Often what is good for American is good for any sitting president, but Trumps seeming inability to think for the future does not impress me. Presidents need to make decisions that are good long term even though it might seem not the best right now.
I disagree that Trump will not make it for 4 years. I think he will, physically. Mentally, he's already gone.
Go watch a video of Trump after court last week thumbing through printed out articles and imagine him trying to match wits with world leaders. He runs almost completely off of emotion, and that isn't good for a president, IMO.
I sort of ignore all the speech blunders, everyone makes errors, gets lost, etc. occasionally when giving public speeches.
It is Trump's decision making that I worry about.

If Trump were elected this year, he'd be older than Biden in 2020....

Tim Scott was asked by CNN if he would accept the result of the election no matter who won.

    He never wanted to answer.

This is what Trumpism has done to this country.

I have been wondering when Conservatives will speak up. Populists will go to their graves defending Trump, but Conservatives have been looking from the sidelines while biting their tongue.

Which means the guy will be flushed from the GOP by the end of the month

The GOP today is not the Taft/Ike/Reagan GOP, it is now Trump’s GOP, he owns it, and many if not most of the traditional conservative principles have been abandoned including a moral compass

No, as Reagan would define them, last I knew, Reagan stood for fiscal responsibility, judicial restraint, and recognizing Russian aggression, just to name a few

I wouldn't call Reagan a fiscal conservative. He spent a crap ton on the military. While it did need a lot of that, he went overboard (which was good for my career).

Not many. They deserve their own party, and leave the GOP to the populist alt-right.

That ain’t happening, their base are populists, even though the majority of that base couldn’t define what conservatism is nor explain conservative principles
