The woman didn't want to abort her baby. She took a risk. end of story.

True, most conservatives believe if the mothers life is in danger, it would be ok to abort.

I also believe I could see why this woman would want to take the risk. I know with my wife, if this was her, she would probably want to try to have the baby as well. Some women aren't so lucky as to get pregnant so easily when they want to become a mother.

and I think the issue a lot of people have is that she chose to get pregnant knowing it would have major health risks for her....but again, thats her choice.

First of all no I wouldn't prefer voters choosing because most of the U.S. population aren't very smart and can easily be manipulated by a big ad campaign(see prop 8 in CA). I'd much rather have intelligent people decide big issues like this using the constitution, funny how you righties always talk about the constitution until a case is decided that you don't agree with.

Also what is the controversy in this thread? This woman was allowed to choose and she chose to have her baby knowing the consequences, but it was her choice which is the ultimate freedom. Do you guys really think it would be constitutionally sound for the government to force women to have a kid if it put their life in danger?

 

The Woman's decision was wrong from a biblical and rational standpoint.

First, its completely acceptable to have an abortion if your life is threatened, just like its perfectly acceptable to kill another human being if they have a gun to your head. Giving life is precious, but not when it brings about death to the mother and possibly the child. In this case, both the mother and child were threatened, but this block head still carried the pregnancy. Let's not mistake courage for stupidity.

Second, the mother knew for sure she was going to die. She left the responsiblity of this child to relatives or the state. The cost will either be on those relatives or me. I don't want to pay more taxes to keep human beings alive. If were not going to do it with healthcare, the death penalty or homeless people, why should I have to do it with someone else's kid? An anti-abortion policy would force us towards socialism faster than any democratic policy.

 

so if the voters decide to MANDATE abortion for single women or poor women you would be with that because the voters had a choice?

It is a sad thing when the loss of a life is celebrated not only for the cost saving on social security but used as a means to put down others.
