    Very good advice, finnbow!

Let's consider some serious discussions and some correct political statements for a change.

And the clueless Democrats wonder why our national economy cannot lift off and once again and soar to new heights! Before we worry about these little distractions, let's first concern ourselves with the Congressional policies that are really holding our economy back and preventing it from actually improving!

But, in DemCount the left proves that 2+2 seldom equals 4...They are renowned for the, let us be kind, 'innovative' use of numbers and math.

Let us be honest for a moment. Aside from the imaginary numbers, the left infests academia. They are 99% peas in a pod.

Except that "the Rich" are targetted as a general group - and there's nothing wrong with being "Rich".

On the flip side, there most certainly is something wrong with acting elitist.

Do you see the difference? You just freely acknowledged that the Democrats conduct a class war against a group of people because they have assets. The Conservative pejorative of "liberal elitism" attacks a specific and unappealing behaviour.

And one side is doing it legitimately, and the other side is not, because of what I explained ↑.

    :omg:

Were these - or were these not - your words:

Here, you choose to criticize Conservatives.

Here, you choose to defend a Liberal.

Here you actually choose to defend the idea of being a Liberal Elite.

Here, you attack Conservatives - and excuse the politics of character assassination of the Left - when the Conservatives are engaging in legitimate condemnation of disgusting and hypocritical behaviour.

    Here, you do it again.

Trust me, no one is buying that you "choose not to get sucked into it".

If you think that this argument of mine is simply dismissive, you'll be able to rebut what I said - and you can trust me: I don't ever put forth an argument without having thought it through thoroughly.

    You are very correct, JIMV.

By the way, since most of the liberals in this forum are under the age of 25, I would wager that many of them (1) still live with mommy and daddy, or (2) they share an apartment with five room mates and deliver pizzas all day or display advertizing signs on busy street corners for minimum wage compensation!

It was Winston Churchill who wisely said, "If you are young and not a liberal, you have no social conscience; if you are older and not a conservative, you have no common sense!

"The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of the blessings. The inherent blessing of socialism is the equal sharing of misery." - Winston Churchill

By the way, here is why most liberals have a difficult time expressing themselves and often are very dizzy when it comes to organizing their thoughts and thinking clearly!

Is this the same Winston Churchill who served his country in both the Liberal and Conservative parties, reneging on one for the other?

No, you are very mistaken, Beevee.

It was Winston Churchill who was a liberal when he was very young. And then as he grew older and acquired wisdom, he decided instead to become a conservative!

The rich and ultra rich have all the controls. How would it even be possible for a poor person to run for high level offices. With multimillion dollar campaigns to run for such offices they are by and large being financed by the wealthy. They are the ones supporting and funding those that will eventually get into office.
Do you think they are putting out those kinds of dollars without some return on such an investment?

They just define 'thinking clearly' a tad differently.

The problem I see is that there's a great amount of people in the political world in America (particularly those on the right, which is to be expected because academia is primarily liberal) who seems to vilify them solely because they are academics. People prefer "common sense" solutions to society's problems, when in reality common sense isn't concrete. This leads to academics being bashed as "elitists" and the sort.

If I had to guess, I'd think a large part of it is the anti-authority and untrustworthy nature of much of America that leads people to be highly suspicious of those who supposedly claim to know better. That and the fact that education and Academics isn't exactly as valued in the US as in other places. A lot of people just don't have time for it.

I suppose you could be correct.... but taken in whole on what I saw and heard.... this was really not what the problem was. And as for the fancy car thing... it was just a very clear example... there are many other instances.

For example, I can clearly remember being at a funeral for his brother in law. And he was having a conversation with someone and very loudly proclaimed... "Well he watches FOX news... I mean really what do you expect!!! and then started laughing..." Almost as though he felt the need to reflexively prove... and prove again that he was "liberal" so that his status would be continually held in high reguard. It is very strange watching what he does... for me anyway.... always seems like a highly theatrical type performance put on for others benefit. Once in while he will use the same parroted phrases that you hear so often on the left. "Comprehensive immegration reform is what we need.... The Stimulus is what is needed here...." and so on and so forth....

Reminds me of listening to monks chanting the same phrases over and over again. Then again I have often said that liberalism reminds me more of a religious order than a political philosophy....

Acedemia has it's own set of rules and taboos, just like a religious order. And many things that the professors will do (at least from what I saw) was just to soothe their own egos.

When I was at school I took lots of psycology courses, I found them interesting. But the thing I did notice is that when it came to naming behaviors, each professor seemed to have the need to name it something different and unique. Just so they could claim it. Even though in every book it was called something different, but meant exactly the same thing....

Well, there is a spiritual component to my own liberalism, and I know there is for others as well, but there are also a lot of liberals that come out something more like secular humanism.

The way I look at it, I just want everyone to be free. Not some hypothetical freedom where, theoretically, they have the possibility of being rich some day in the hopes of being part of a privileged few able to afford freedom. I want everyone to be actually free in a practical sense. I want them to be free of poverty, free of ignorance, free of terror, free to move, free to make up their own minds, free to live their own lives, free of the unwanted interference of other people.

And to my mind, that's what makes America a good thing. We, the people, as a nation, are predicated on the idea that all people must be made free; ourselves, and each other. And it's not just a dream, it's a way. Something in the real world, not just in faerie tales. Not just the carrot at the end of the stick, a tease to motivate the masses, but a tangible liberty.

I think that's what most of us want, right? Conservative, liberal, that's just a question of strategy. The goal is the same.

I'm a liberal, and I think I'm right about this. I know I'm right about this. If that makes me arrogant, this conviction that what I say is true is true, then fine. I'm arrogant and I have a superiority complex 'cause I think I'm right about this.

Well, it doesn't take much to see how brilliant you are.

I forgot to mention that he began life as a Conservative, reneged on them, joined the Liberal party and reneged on them, when he joined the Conservative party for the second time.

So what do you have to say about that?

It's also important to point out that both British parties were and are to the left of American 'liberals'.

Well, if you knew anything about conservatism, you'd know Nazi Germany was a socialist tyrannical nation whereas true conservatism leads to anarchy not more government.

    HaHa!

Some people have trouble making up their minds?

But you have to try liberalism at least once to realize it is a flawed system and produces results (dependency, lack of personal achievement) you don't like it!

But Churchill got it right in the end!

    Good for PM Churchill!

"Socialists cry "Power to the people", and raise the clenched fist as they say it. We all know what they really mean — power over people, power to the State."

I have no trouble making up my mind.

When it comes to England, I voted Conservative all my life, with the exception of the Blair (subsequent destruction) government when I was fooled like so many others.

Churchill and Thatcher? I must be one of their greatest admirers.

Don't let my questioning your knowledge fool you.

    No problem, Beevee.

I am very comfortable with my political views and I like to have them challenged.

I guess I am a moderate or as centrist on most issues. I am a fiscal conservative but I support gay rights and a woman's right to choose. I firmly believe deeply-held religious views have no place in politics. We should be equally wary of radicals and extremists on the Left and on the Right.

I do not dislike Obama, but I believe his socialist views and his big-government solutions are very harmful to our economy and threaten our greatness as a free, democratic nation. I believe in individual liberty, self determination and freedom from excessive government regulation.

This is why I often challenge him and his judgment on many, many issues.

I know a great deal about socialism AND about nazism. You unfortunately are not in that case and are talking from the wrong orifice.
