Are you seriously asserting that the entire prison population consists of poor people who only broke the law to put food on the table for their family? Seriously?

Let's assume for the sake of argument that the entire prison population consists of oppressed poor people (that's silly in the extreme, but.....). In order for you to prove that "most poor oppressed people are in prison", you would also have to provide some numbers to support that clearly erroneous claim. You know like, the total number of oppressed poor people?

Do you actually expect to be taken seriously when you make these silly claims, or are you simply trying to get a rise out of us? I pray to God it's the latter.

yes when people get generous welfares they are less likely to commit crimes.

that is why europe has lower crime rate than the US, they have abundant welfares

Well... at least we have an answer now as to how people like this are thinking. So giving money away stops crime.

This of course could not be farther from the truth. People working for money generally cuts down on crime.... because they are WORKING!!!!

Honestly... I think my time here in the forums is about at an end. I am an adult... I came here to discuss ideas with other adults. Sadly most people in here are still children. If you financially supoprt yourself then you have earned the right to call yourself an adult. If someone else is paying your way through life currently, then you are still a child.

When you have to pay your way through life you start to have very different ideas and thoughts than you did before. You have to live with a bit of fear in the back of your mind about making the rent, mortguage payment, getting to work on time so you are not fired... etc.... I just do not think I am going to be lectured by people that still live at home about how "the world works".

the system of paying ones way through life is outdated, it needs to be replaced with a live and let live policy where those who want to work work and those who don't get assistance until they are ready

A tyrant will always find a pretext for his tyranny.

Necessity is the cry of the tyrant.

And what happens when the number that choose not to work outnumber those who want to? Why would anyone want to work, when they could be idle, and be completely taken care of? You understanding of human nature is flawed....

I think I disagree. Partly. Let me think about this.

Human beings are industrious by nature. The question isn't whether or not people will work. People will work.

The question is, what will people work at?

If you consider paying taxes being mugged, then I suppose you would support a system where taxes are optional, but at the same time, anyone who refuses to pay them is not allowed to use ANY public service.....including police, fire safety, public school, USPS, ect.....You don't HAVE to pay taxes.....but everyone who does does not have to pay for you to use government programs if you choose not to.

Sorry dude, finger painting, making lame music in a garage band or writing crappy open source software is not working.. we call those hobbies.

That is what people will do, they will pursue worthless hobbies.

Perhaps not, but I would imagine that the majority of people in prison for petty crimes, such as theft, would likely be on the lower end of the scale - the poorer folk.

I was just in court the other day with a friend, and there was a lady who had spent the last 3 years shoplifting at every store within 100 miles of that courtroom's location. She had over 40 pending charges across the State.

She didn't do it because she was poor, she didn't do it becuase she was starving. She did it simply becuase she didn't want to pay for the things she wanted to own.

Then I hope she was taught a real lesson and locked up for a few years. I hate people who do that, they are the real scumbags.

    EXACTLY.

    W/R/T:

Should Government Use Force To Take Your Money For Taxes To Help The Poor?

    The correct answer would be:

The Government Should Use Force To Take Money From The Scumbags Described By Makedde To Pay My Taxes.

people do not want to stay on welfare that is a myth created by businesses and the rich so they don't have to pay more taxes

generous welfare just creates more demand for employment which forces businesses to incentivize work with higher pay and benefits.

if people get high salaries for easy work they will get off welfare

You honestly believe that if people were given money and allowed to be idle, vs. gettng money by working, that the vast majority of people would choose to work, rather than sit at home and get the money anyway?

If your boss asked you to work on a day off, and said he would not pay you for it... would you want to work that day? Would you choose to take a vacation day, and choose to work for your employer anyway? I have not met people in my entire life that have acted like that. And yes.... before you say it... charitable donations of your time do not count. Those are for people less fortunate... and not your employer....

That is an easy one to define.... if you make money at something, but not enough to support yourself doing it.... then THAT is a hobby. If you make enough money to support yourself by doing your hobby... then that is your work. Sort of like people that support themselves in LA by working as a waiter... but get small acting jobs waiting to get their "big break"...

Yes! The overall reason for government is to protect the interest and safety of the people as a whole. Do poor people effect our community, not considering them using tax dollars? Yes. They start diseases, raise crime rates, hinder the beauty of the community, and raise their children horribly and then they will most likely be poor too.

Its not if the government should spend money on the poor, its how the government should spend the money on the poor.

People are poor mostly because of the following two problems:

    1. They were raised horribly by their surroundings. I would personally put the complete blame on the parents, caregivers, and/or friends of the poor, rather than on the poor themselves.

I believe the government needs to make sure the children of the future are brought up as well educated and healthy as possible. Parents/Caregivers should be required to prove that they are fit to care for their child by requiring drugs tests, mental stability checks, and show that they can afford to take care for their child as soon as the mother is pregnant. If not then they need to quickly find a qualified caregiver, get an abortion, or let the government find a caregiver. The government also needs to have resources to help guide parents when they need it and programs to care for children when parents aren't qualified to. And provide as much free education as possible. Parents should be required to go teacher meetings and get involved with the school. Children should be required to graduate high school.

    2. They are too mentally or physically disabled to support themselves.

For this situation I would require the parents or caregivers of the disabled to pay for them, but if they can't then the government should help out. Unfortunately the community does not benefit from this, but it would be immoral for us not to help out. A lot of people will disagree but I would require pregnant mothers to test if the kid will turn out too disabled to support itself and if it was i would require an abortion. If I were mentally or physically handicapped where I couldn't support myself, I wouldn't want to live.

What really disgusts me are people who claim they are mentally or physically disabled when they are not. I'm not sure how the government requires proof of this, but i'm pretty sure they can do a better job because I know people who are abusing the system. The government needs to enforce serious consequences on these types of actions.

A person who collects welfare or uses any type of government program needs to be tested for drugs and have graduated high school to get funding. If they don't pass the drug test then they should be put into some type of rehab prison. If they don't have a high school diploma then the government should
put them in a educational program prison.

    This ^

I often ask people who want to get rid of unemployment insurance,
and minimum wage, how they would feel if the government diverted funding for those programs over to infrastructure spending.

Usually, we agree that its better to pay people to work, than to pay them not to work.
America was created through hard work, that's how it got great,
so I reckon that if we want it to stay great,
we need to put everybody back to work.

    I'm a little confused though.
Why would an education welfare prerequisite program need to be a prison?
Same with drugs. Also, I'm a little uneasy about the idea that any type of abortion should be dictated. Eventually, something like that may need to be implemented just to keep the population growth in check, but I prefer baby steps. Let's decide whether or not abortion should even be allowed at all before we go mandating it. ;)

About the abortion. If the parent can't take good care of the child and their wasn't a caregiver to accept the responsibility then would there be a good chance that this unborn baby would be a murderer, poor, or a criminal itself because of the neglect it will most likely receive. I admit the idea is pretty extreme.

People who don't have a job and live off welfare are very lazy, uneducated, and do not try hard enough. (This is excluding the disabled.) The government shouldn't let lazy people live like hardworking people who get low wages. The government should strip them of their rights and try to make hardworkers out of them. Maybe not a prison, but more like a boot camp. Educate them in the books and hand on. Teach them how to clean, cook, accounting, write, farm, etc. Make it as self-sufficient as possible to where you are only paying for the "teachers/drill sergeants". Make them rely on each other to show how important it is to work together, wake up at certain times, etc. Make them change their minds about life.

this is a very good post with a small exception, those who use drugs should still get welfare because they are oppressed into a terrible lifestyle and drugs are their only escape

maybe mandatory free government drug counseling at the cost of the taxpayer but welfare should never be denied to anyone
