This is a terrible tragedy, and unfortunately murder/suicides are all too common. There is however, no evidence or reason to blame the mans alleged religion or claim it was an honer killing.

Dave, that is the problem. Muslims have a special book, that they say is about peace, but it allows for this, and the law that is supported by this book of peace does the same, legally.

The special book that says we can kill you if draw a cartoon we don't like, write about our prophet in any way we don't llke...or kill family members in honor to the book and prophet and the law.

That is the difference Dave. People kill people for many reasons, both muslims, christians, atheists etc. Money, anger, pettiness, war whatever. But when you feel you have a specail book, prophet and law to do so...that is incredibly barbaric and uncivilized, and should be reported much more than it even is.

The "Covina Massacre" named "marital problems" as the reason for the killings. No religion was cited in the story.

In this case, the best friend of the daughter cited the religion, and - due to like-kind stories, readers are extrapolating motive. It's conjecture, of course, but it's drawn intelligently.

I wonder if more will be published explaining in more detail the exact motive. I happen to think it is a combination of factors, but - clearly - honor killing is logical here, as simple financial issues could probably explain him taking his own life, but not his wife's or child's.

And I'm pretty confident I'm correct. So confident, in fact, that I hereby issue you a challenge: I bet you $1000 that "honor killing" will adequately describe at least part of his motive. You pay me $1000 one one condition only: that his Muslim religion provided him his own partial justification for this act, and that is discovered through investigation.

If nothing definitive is discovered, the bet is a draw. If a definitive motive is discovered, and his religion is proven to have had nothing to do with it, I owe you $1000.
