    Has Obama lost his mind?

    I believe he has!

Now he wants Congress to increase the nation’s debt ceiling from $15.2 trillion to $16.4 trillion.

Why on earth are we spending this much money and where is all of it going?

I have made a number of attempts to uncover what all this money is being spent on, but no one in the main stream media seems to know!

Does anyone in our “Current Events” discussion forum know? No guesses please. We need reliable sources and strong evidence.

Its time to start forcing the millionaires and billionaires to pony up their owed share. The poor and middle class pay enough.

What middle class? There is no middle class. Wealthy people carry their share of the tax burden. If the taxes are raised on the wealthy, then they will simply move to other countries that understand how the system works. It's amazing to me that most of the people that cry tax the rich, don't even have a job!

It occurred to me that someone must counter your drivel with a little common sense.

If you're so worried about the deficit, repeal the Bush tax cuts. If we did that our deficits would be gone in less than 15 years.

More like "restore taxes" to the level they were in the 90s.

Obama was for them to extend unemployment and other things for the working and middle class.

And they expire at the end of this year.

    As they should.

    1) Another example of why compromise isnt always good. If he was against the Bush cuts he shouldnt have signed off on them. They are now on him.

    2) Define "other things for the working and middle class"

Well of course that would work because obviously the problem is that the American taxpayers just aren't paying enough taxes, it has nothing to do with the government's spending problems.

No, the poor often pay no federal income taxes, and sometimes through programs like EIC, they receive tax money resulting in a negative income tax. Also, if you want to get technical, the *poor* are the ones who are the recipients of the the government welfare programs. So how do you think the poor are paying "enough" of the taxes?

Obama has extended tax break for the super wealthy not once but twice since he became POTUS. I think it's time for you to take your complaint to whoever occupies the White House currently.

    Flashback 2006

“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.” …….. Senator Barack Obama

"The problem is, is that the way Bush has done it over the last eight years is to take out a credit card from the Bank of China in the name of our children, driving up our national debt from $5 trillion for the first 42 presidents – #43 added $4 trillion by his lonesome, so that we now have over $9 trillion of debt that we are going to have to pay back — $30,000 for every man, woman and child. That’s irresponsible. It’s unpatriotic." Senator Barack Obama

    -Extended Unemployment benefits
    -Extended Payroll tax cuts
    -Extended College tuition tax credit
-Expanded earned income tax credit for small businesses

The College tuition tax credit was a very nice increase on my tax return.

Its hard to repeal the Bush tax cuts when the Republican congress holds other things hostage in order to keep them going (unemployment benefits immediately spring to mind). Remember, Republicans want to keep the tax cuts permanent.

When you're the most powerful country in the world, with the world's largest military, and with the third highest population, you're going to have to spend some money. If we were some tiny little country like South Korea, your argument would make more sense.
