2 dead in Israeli strike on Gaza

GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces opened fire on the northern Gaza Strip on Wednesday, killing two people and seriously injuring at least two others, witnesses and medics said.

The health ministry in Gaza said Muhammad Shaker Abu Odeh was pronounced dead at the scene. Ahmad Al-Zaaneen, 17, died shortly after the strike in hospital. Two others were seriously injured.

An Israeli military official said the attack near Beit Hanoun targeted a "terrorist squad" planting an explosive device on the border.

Witnesses told Ma'an that planes and tanks fired at least four times toward the city.

Medics said ambulances were not initially able to reach the scene due to the continuous fire and heavy shooting. One of the ambulances sustained damage, according to health officials.

A statement from the Israeli army said it targeted "a terrorist squad that was planting an explosive device near the security fence in the northern Gaza Strip. Hits were confirmed."

The statement continued: "An explosion was identified, originating from the explosive device the terrorists attempted to plant near the security fence with the intention of harming IDF soldiers."

If the people that were killed and injured were merely a terrorist squad planting a bomb, then the actions were justified. Unfortunately, we only have the Israelis' word for this, which isn't worth much.

The two people who were killed in the attack - Muhammad Shaker Abu Odeh and Ahmad Al-Zaaneen (who was a minor btw) - were civilians... Why are you celebrating civilian deaths...? Not to mention as the report said, the Israeli tanks and planes shot 4 times in/at the city which is a residential civilian area.

 

The Pal terrorists are too cowardly to have a uniformed military.

I'm sorry but you have no proof that the two men were innocent civilians. You just made that up. If they were near the blast area of the bomb it is probable that they were the ones planting it.

No, I didn't make it up. First, let's analyze how the article says it. Every article with this similar situation will call the ones killed "Hamas militants" or "Islamic Jihad militants" etc. Not by their names, especially when the health ministry in Gaza takes care of them. It never told us that they were militants in the first place. Now, let's confirm they're civilians with other sources. The Palestine Telegraph confirmed this in their article. The WashingtonPost confirms this too. Among many other sources. You can also check the OCHA oPt weekly report at the end of the week which, I assure you, will also confirm they were civilians.

By the way, the 2 people wounded (and not just the ones killed) were also civilians - just throwing that out there.

No report that came out said the people who died were the ones planting the bomb. As the articles said they blamed "Palestinian militants or Hamas" for the bomb. They completely and intentionally called the 2 killed and the 2 injured civilians. They evidently meant these people were civilians! Why are you trying to justify the death of 2 innocent people...?
