Here's the truth. Many Jews, following the Zionist doctrine and displaced and traumatized by European jew-hatred that culminated in the Holocaust, went to Israel/Palestine and established a potential nation. 1947 came around and the UN made a stupid compromise that satisfied neither the Jews nor the Arabs and guaranteed violence. The Israelis had better backing and more desperation and won the war and used the opportunity to chase hundreds of thousands of arabs off their land and refused to let them return after the war was over (not that the Arabs wouldn't have behaved worse if they had won).

Then, skipping the silliness of 1956, came the Six-Day War. Egypt and Syria and perhaps Jordan were nerving themselves up to attack Israel so Israel Pearl Harbored them first and created a whole new wave of refugees and captured the West Bank and Gaza. It should be noted that virtually none of the Palestinians would have been involved in the fighting if the Arabs had attacked first. The Six-Day War completed the humiliation of the Arabs and of Islam and completed the persecution of Jews in Muslim lands so that virtually all those Jews emigrated (mostly to Israel). Prior to 1947 they had been treated better in Muslim lands than they had in Christian ones.

For the next two decades peace might have been possible between the two sides. The flexible Israelis gradually became more arrogant and obdurant while the arrogant and obdurant Palestinians gradually became more flexible (although harsh occupation on the one hand and terrorist tactics on the other did not help the situation). The opportunity was lost and Israel even rubbed more dirt into the Muslim wound by invading Lebanon (definitely not Israeli territory) and hanging onto a southern portion for years while allowing a massacre of Palestinian refugees by local Christian forces.

Now both sides are increasingly reluctant to find a peaceful solution, because Israeli land theft has reached such proportions that no identifiable Palestine can be created without serious dismantling of numerous settlements (and the Palestinians are also divided politically) so neither side thinks it can really benefit from a peace. This means that for the Muslim world they have a continued failure of almost six decades where their Muslim brothers have been increasingly oppressed, dispossessed and generally taken advantage of.

At the same time Jews living outside Israel quickly identified with the state of Israel (1948 and after). Many went to Israel on long visits to tour, to work on kibbutzim or even to serve in the IDF. Increasingly over the years, being identified as a Jew meant being identified as a supporter of Israel and perhaps ahead of whatever nation the particular Jew was a citizen of (USA, Russia, UK, Egypt, etcetera). They thus mirrored the internationalist Muslims (Islam theoretically ahead of nation) and thus increasingly any Jew anywhere became a fair target in the eyes of some Muslims.

This is why the Israel/Palestine situation is such a canker in world politics. This area of 12.5 million people enrages and engages at least a billion and a half people (Muslims, Jews and interested Christians and/or Americans. The battle lines are drawn and nobody really wants a viable peace except some European countries.

 

This seems to be a fair analysis of the past, explaining how it led to the present situation.

 

You seem to have omitted that part where the Jordanian army kicked the Pals out of Jordan. That's the real solution- the Arab states should absorb the Pals as Israel absorbs Jews from other lands, but they will not.

Don Glock REALLY doesn't know what he's talking about. The majority of the Jordanian population today are of Palestinian origin (either directly or a descendant of refugees from the Israel/Palestine area). His reference to the events of Black September (where several Palestinian liberation organisations plotted to overthrow the Jordanian monarchy and were crushed by the Jordanian army, with perhaps 50,000 Palestinians being forced or strongly encouraged to leave Jordan as a result.

Talk about an incredibly stupid spin on historical events. The actual historical record would suggest that Palestinian refugees are a destablizing source of trouble for an Arab state that takes them in in large numbers. This is really going to make them welcome immigrants (sarcasm alert). Why would Arab states with high unemployment rates want millions of foreigners added to their countries populations? Are the Israelis and Americans going to pay them hundreds of billions of dollars in blood money to accept such a massive injustice?

I never said the Pals were innocent. They have been making their own conditions worse for decades. Why should Israel
give them anything, if the Arabs can't trust them?
