By now the stupidity of the tough on crime position should be clear to everyone.

So what are you saying? Should we let them out or stop giving them medical care or what?

If someone is old and unable to commit a crime, they no longer pose a threat to society, and should thus be released, as there is no reason to have them imprisoned. To not give them medical care would be barbaric, and the current prison system with it's overcrowdedness and inadequate medical care and even lack of healthy food is grossly barbaric.

Prison isn't just for rehab its for punishment. That's why we have life without parole sentences and the death penalty.

Just because you can no longer hurt anybody doesn't mean you should be free to go. Can't have a justice system based on whether or not you are a threat to society or not. If thats the case then half the people in prison would be out.

But you'll have to forgive me insensitivity to murderers and rapists, I honestly don't care one bit about them.

Vengeance is dumb, as it fails to understand that crime happens due to social conditions, not becuase an individual is "evil".

I find it somewhat amusing that the American government thinks it can solve the problems in society by punishing people. And when that does not work, they think the problem is that the punishments are not severe enough.

It probably has something to do with all the diversity in America, which could be causing people to care less about their neighbors. I think there is plenty of racial resentment lurking under the surface, so the people are more prone to want to severely punish lawbreakers.

That they are treated inhumanly does not help the victims at all. Also the cost for so long sentences is extremely high for both the federal and state governments. If we did not keep them longer than necessary in prison, we could save a LOT of money.

You sound like someone who is trying to make the law as lenient as possible because you have nefarious intentions.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't you also the guy who made a post awhile back trying to argue that the age of consent should be abolished?

I'm seeing a disturbing pattern here.

No matter what the liberal idiots think, punishment deters crime.

There is no solution for outa control psychos except death, or incarceration as soon as possible (depending on the crime).

As far as diversity is concerned: that's a toughie.

Our nation benefits greatly due to diversity.

Our nation is built on the contribution of wise & hardworking immigrants who are proud of their new country.

On the balance, I repeat: ON THE BALANCE, the Negroes & Latrinos are an exception to that rule.

Wish to hell there was a way to deport them .... but there isn't.

It's the tough on crime kind of people who wants to use taxpayer money on keeping people much longer in prison than necessary, if we did't have such long sentences taxpeyer money would be saved. But i dont expect you to understand this, as in your world anyone who does't agree with you is an "idiotic liberal idiot who love to spend other peoples' taxpayer money".
