In the Orwellian world of Drumpfland doublespeak up is down, black is white, and obstruction is cooperation. Yesterday, upon refusing to answer questions in front of the House Intel Committee, based on instructions from the WH, former chief strategist Steve Bannon was handed a subpoena, compelling him to answer. He still refused, saying he wanted to answer fully but the WH was still telling him not to. While executive privilege covers some of the conversations Bannon was asked to testify about most of the answers he was asked to give have no such protection.

Bannon's refusal to answer any and all questions harkens back to the time when the antebellum lawn jockey known as AG Jeff Sessions invoked a similar type of non-existent privilege in not answering selective questions during a congressional hearing. The WH did not assert executive privilege in those hearings, Sessions just refused to answer under the guise of dubious assertions made by Reagan's DOJ. Something that ordinarily would have resulted in the AG being held in contempt of Congress if not for the Repub committee chairman being complicit in allowing the WH to stonewall the investigation. Recall also that Sessions had lied in earlier testimony about his contacts with Russians, as have a number of Drumpfster's.

Dan Coats, the director of national intelligence, and Adm. Michael S. Rogers, the director of the National Security Agency, gave a similar rationale to Sessions for not answering questions during hearings before the same Senate committee as Sessions appeared before.

Yet the WH continues to make the absurd claim it is cooperating fully with all the investigations. Because........you know..........they have nothing to hide (wink).

Now consider that President Shithole himself said he would have no issue with sitting down with Mueller to answer questions for the investigation. But that was a few months back, before Don and his attorneys had a full understanding of the jeopardy Don could put himself in by contradicting testimony Mueller now has from many members of current and former WH staff. Apparently Don has convinced himself he will never have to submit to questions from Mueller based on recent comments. Was that delusion or denial.......you decide.

For the minion's part, they obediently nod up and down when they hear Sarah say the WH is cooperating with Mueller and Congress. For them, parroting the WH's doublespeak has become pretty ordinary no matter how detached from reality it is. Which is exactly what Don wants, a compliant base of supporters ready and willing to believe anything he tells them even when it is as outlandish as calling the entire matter a "witch hunt" he is fully cooperating with.

 

Maybe he should just claim the fifth like Lerner.

The investigation is proceeding too slowly for a lot of people. But when you consider the scope and breadth of Mueller's task it is understandable it's taking a while. I think Starr's investigation went for 3 years.

Of course, that isn't the point. The point is the WH's claims of cooperation are ridiculous on their face and even his supporters should realize it.
