This never was about oil. That is correct, and libs who say otherwise don't understand the situation properly. What it was about was geopolitical strategy. About gaining a foothold, and a base of power right in the center of a giant problem area. Bush and his friends thought that by putting a large amount of troops in Iraq, it would strengthen our position in the middle east, because we would be able to rapidly respond to any threat. The problem was that the rebuilding after the war was far more difficult than we thought it would be, and it actually strengthened Iran's position. And even if it didn't drastically weaken our position, it certainly didn't make it stronger to justify spending a few trillion dollars and losing thousands of lives.
