A sperm and an egg are just a sperm and an egg...just specialized cells.....they have the potential to create life, but if they haven't joined, potential is all they represent..

If mitosis has begun then a new life has started..if it spontaneously aborts, then it has died of natural causes...often completely unknown...but then, being known isn't a requisite for being human is it?... Anyway, it is a unique human being that has died.

You don't seem to understand what "alive" is...when the cells start dividing, then it is alive...a fetus is a potential life, in the same way that you are a potential old geezer.
a fetus is only 'potentail' for being a human.
