The problem with Mexico is that they have what we would have if there were unfettered capitalism: a LOT of extremely poor people, and a very few extremely rich people, and no one in between. This means that these few are able to basically control the lives of the poor. And they do, and the keep them poor, and this leads to a lot of government corruption - the government just sits around and helps out the rich, and in exchange, the rich make it impossible for the poor to have their way with the country despite being a huge majority.

There is also a huge drug problem in Mexico. A single bill legalizing all drugs would solve the problem cleanly in a year or two, but that will never happen.

I give Mexico a decade before there's a popular uprising.
