It didn't used to be. But executative pay is based much on short term profit at the expense of long term growth.

I guess you missed what happened with Chrysler Corp. in the 1980's after Lee Iaccoca brought her out of near bankruptcy, with the help of a government loan. They repaid the loan in five years, and some time later I met a man who had invested $1000 in the company when their stocks were on the penny-market. He was a
very happy (and much richer) man. And I was asking myself, "Where the hell was I!" Somewhere in Dreamland, I guess.
