the invention of guns are the main reason why we are the leading primate on earth today. without them, we wouldn't be able to tame lions and tigers and elephants and other such beasts that walk this earth. we would probably be extinct by now if it wasn't for guns.

I can't imagine that the average citizen would need to defend themselves against elephants. However, if all those donkeys in Congress get too tyrannical than I agree with Jefferson. (Hilary would be the first to go)

Wow, your sense of history is amazing. You do realize when guns were invented, right?

I wouldn't say guns i would say weapons in general are the things that give people freedom and the chance to defend themselves.

Some weapons were useful in protecting our species. Bows and spears helped men hunt. Swords helped men kill each other. That's an important distinction.

Of coarse they were lots of weapons were used by people to kill each other. And just like guns civilians with with access to the most powerful weapons of the time were free of tyranny. Heres a good quote:

They also proved good in defending yourself from the violence that was around (and still is really) back in the day when the police or guards couldn't.
