People should not only read the Bohhoeffer but how clergy in Germania pledged allegence to Hitler, how the Nazi's used the churches and how the churches used the Nazi power.
No doubt were there many churches and priests that closed their eyes, agitated from the pulpit or simply stayed out of politics. I am not pointing out the spineless persons that lived during those times as I am not pointing out the spineless people today but rather the brave souls of the "Bekennenden Kirche" wich openly opposed the tyranny.

It is interesting to note that for a stellar example of civic courage, you must point out all the ones that did nothing. On that note, why did nobody from the sides of the allies do anything against the concentration camps as it was not a secret and was documented a number of times that the allies did know of the existance of the KZ's and did nothing either. So while we talk about all those that either marched with or did nothing let's be an equal opportunity blamer and hand some blame to the allies for ignoring the extermination camps. Where does not doing anything against something fall? In my oppinion, it is equally as bad. Ignoring the facts cost as many lives as did the "pledging allegiance".

Maybe you can enlighten me and let me know when you lived under a totalitarian dictatorship and then you may pass judgement on others. This is not to defend those that bought into an ideology but to point out that in different times and different places you and i may also have been party members or sympathizers of a movement, if for nothing else but to receive an additional loaf of bread or a better place at an air raid shelter.... You can say what you would have done, but until you are in the situation, you can't really be certain!
