Knowing only the basics of Christianity (excuse my ignorance), I will explain it so:

The Bible says God created Earth. Darwin says man evolved from other beings. Bible says it took seven days. Darwin said it took billions of years.

Now, I am not saying the Bible nor Darwin are politically correct, but can't they be on the same page? Maybe God's seven days had been a figure of speech, if you will, which actually accounted for billions of years.

Thoughts, anyone?

Yes thats my opinion and the opinion of the Catholic Church. We as Catholics, don't believe that anyone can fully understand how God does what he does, unless he wants to show us. That is the power of the Holy Spirit, its guides the Church and humanity down our path of knowledge. We study, learn, observe, debate, categorize, theorize, about God's creations all the time, in fact most early Scientist where deeply religious men who simply wanted to better understand how God created our world, this is believed will bring us closer to the grace of God. I don't know how many modern scientist now fell that way, but for me its how I feel about science. Their is nothing that man can discover that will disprove the existence of God, or the teaching of my belief. Evolution doesn't do it, the big bang theory doesn't do it. No scientific theory does it. In the end Science is only the best man can use his God-given reason, talents, and imagination to observe, theorize and test, ideas about the world around him that God created. That in itself has its limits, because when one starts talking about the spiritual world, you are going beyond what you can pounder with simple reason, or ideas. You moved beyond what can be weighted and measured, and classified. That is where the atheist, the agnostic, and the rest divided ourselves.

The Atheist says I can no longer discover anymore, therefor I can't prove it so it must not exists.

The Agnostic says, that is true but it maybe possible that we simply are unable to understand what is beyond what we can discover on this world, and although I'm not willing to believe their is anything beyond what we can reason, I'm not going to reject that anything isn't beyond it.

Then the rest of us the believe in something beyond reason and what we can see say, their are answers to problems that we are unable to discover here, no amount of reason or accumulated human knowledge is going to change that. Matter can not be made or destroyed, and yet it is, so how did it get here? This can not be understood by reason, how the universe came to be big bang or not can not be fully explain. What caused the Big bang? If it was particles such as hydrogen and oxygen, and a explosion where did that matter come from, and how exactly did the explosion start? For the rest of us this is when we say, their is something beyond what we can figure out, perhaps we weren't meant to figure it out, perhaps we simply have to move ourselves beyond the physical realm perhaps it is beyond a known state of conscious. Fact is we don't know what that rout is, or how to get to it but it must exist.

So does evolution, or science in general destroy my faith? No, simply measuring and weighing, and theorizing about, the known world and universe around us does not in my mind somehow disprove my beliefs. If anything its strengths them, because it shows that man can only go so far, and only some many questions can be answered by the field of science, and as long as those over questions remain, and reason can not answer them the answer must lie within a different field of thought, study, or being, and that is faith.
