It has never been anyone's designation to kill all the Muslims in the world (no one credible anyway). For every Muslim that joins with the terrorists, many more do not. A large number do sympathize with the cause of the terrorists. But I sympathize with the general cause of Bush. You don't see me conceding that the military is the best way to do it, do you? In the same manner, most Muslims would prefer not to be terrorists to support the cause of Islamic nationalism and striking out against the West- though some may act as cheerleaders when terrorists strike a blow that they see as "progress".
The cause of Muslims defecting toward terrorism is more the lack of viable alternatives that match their anti-Western stance without violence, then a love for terrorism. And those who defect toward terrorism are in the minority. The strongest weapon that can be used against terrorism is gaining support amongst the Muslim masses. It's not difficult since most will prefer the option that brings peace.
