Some have been mislead into believeing this is for Individual Wiretaps, it is not. It is for the Telecoms turning over their Call Records so the Feds can Data Mine all calls, Yours included, looking for patterns. Because there is no advance "Probable Cause" they couldn't get a Warrant under FISA so this takes care of it. You only need to worry if you call certain phone numbers that in-turn call certain phone numbers, that in-turn call cerain phone numbers, and so on. There are Billions of Call Records for the Systems to sort through. This also applies to Local Law Enforcement as they now have the same access through a Request Laison Program.

Some believe it's important that the Government have a legitimate Legal Reason, "Probable Cause" to get a Warrant, prior to gaining access to your Call Records. I happen to agree and dislike the idea of the Carriers turning over ALL their Call Records for Data Mining / fishing expeditions. This is precisely what the Founders feared. They won't put a "Voice Tap" on unless they see something in someone's Call Pattern, like calling the Iranian Embassy, or your Libyan Girlfriend.

What I do not understand is that everyone in the whole nation seems to think their rights are being violated by illegal wire taps. Well, the fact of the matter is more than 99% of citizens most likely have not been tapped. How would a government possibly pay for that many taps? The truth is it is not even fiscally possible for the government to facilitate anything but a bare minimum of taps, and they likely center those on true threats to our nation.
