There's
zero chance of having a Constitutional amendment related to flag-burning. 38 states and 2/3 of the Senate? Forget about it....
Lemme tell you a little story. My mom was born in Switzerland (which is right next to Germany). She lived through WW-2. She came to the US in 1956. Once here, she immediately hooked up with her good friend in Schenectady NY, whose husband worked at GE and happened to be a member of a certain union (which shall remain nameless).
So as it happens, she was asked to attend a union meeting. The very first thing they did was to say the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America....
Mom almost choked on her soda water. Her first reaction was, "Oh my God, what have I done?"
It immediately evoked fresh memories of Nazi Germany, 'cause that's the exact same thing they did there. March in lock-step to some dumb flag.
And most of 'em didn't even know what it stood for.
Now, I'm not the kind of guy that runs around burning flags, 'cause I can think of better things to do with my time. But by the same token, I'm not about to pledge allegiance to a dumb piece of fabric. My participation in these United States is entirely voluntary. The moment it becomes a fascist state or a communist state or any other kind of state I don't like, I'm outta here.
Fortunately, that hasn't happened yet. I'm keeping one eye open while I sleep though....
(By the way, just so y'all know, the Pledge of Allegiance was written by Francis Bellamy in 1892. Good ol' Francis was a self-proclaimed socialist.
The words "under God" were added in 1954, in response to McCarthyism and the "godless Communist hordes").
