Default Please Water the Birds

I live in Oklahoma and we have had drought summers the past few years, which is hard on the birds. If you live in an area that is also experiencing low rainfall, please remember to keep fresh water outside for the birds.. Of course a bird bath is best, because it keeps cats out, and is perfect for the birds to bathe in or just perch on the edge. But any type of glass or plastic basin which the birds can perch on is better than nothing, and preferably placed on something that keeps it off the ground. -- don't use metal, it gets too hot. Just keep a few inches of water in so they can bathe too, and remember to refresh it daily. I have one in a little garden outside my courtyard and I love to look out my window and see them drinking and playing in it. We have to make up for where nature is failing right now. Another thing, if you eat oranges, string the peels and make a sort of "orange peel mobile" and hang in a tree where the birds can nibble on them. Lots of birds love orange peel and get a lot of nutrition from. Also, plant annual flowers if possible, they product lots of seeds which the birds love, even preferring of course to the bagged seed you can buy in store.
