Jerusalem aside:

3. Syria will not agree to permanent annexation of the Golan Heights -- which means Hezbollah won't either.

5. I doubt Hamas would agree to the ceasefire even if they were given Jerusalem.

8. If there's one nation on earth that has a justifiable reason to own nukes, it's Israel.

As for Jerusalem: Jerusalem contains the most holy site of Judaism, too. You're saying the Jews should hand Jerusalem over to the Arabs as long as free access is granted to all. Fine. But why isn't the reverse acceptable (i.e., Arabs cede Jerusalem to Israel as long as free access is granted to all)?

The only real basis for peace is threefold: a recognition on all sides of Israel's right to exist, a recognition on all sides of a viable Palestine, and specific peace agreements with neighboring states that settle the borders once and for all.

I think Israel will eventually have to give up the Golan. And Jerusalem will have to be solved -- perhaps by declaring it an open city under no one government's control.

On the flip side, Arab governments -- notably Lebanon and Syria -- will have to muzzle the anti-Israel militant groups. Peace will never be had as long as guerrillas are firing rockets and sending suicide bombers into Israel.
