I enjoy living in my native land. I've lived all around America from Texas to Florida to New York and 12 other states due to my last job. I cannot find any place in America that is as pleasant to live. But California could be so much better and lead the world in progressive policy if we were free to rule ourselves. I think every state, or regions, would benefit from more autonomy.

It was after these travels that I realized that the rest of the country, in particular places like Texas, are just completely alien to my culture. Different language, different food, different way of life.

It's a shame that Washington DC has become so powerful and suffocating since the late 1800's. There really isn't anything "united" about the United States when it's a forced union.

I don't know about "forced union", but I understand what you mean I think. Try reading "The Politically Incorrect Guide to the Constitution" by Kevin R. C. Gutzman, J.D., Ph.D. The Federal government has usurped so much power over the states and the people mostly through judicial interpretations and so called "legislation from the bench". A very interesting read.

Thanks Sharon Tate!

PatriotNews:

I'll take a look at the book. I have to agree that regardless of what the Constitution says, we are locked into a unified executive-judicial branch interpretation of it.

Prime example of that:

Texas v. White (1869) where the US Supreme Court interpreted that "The Constitution, in all its provisions, looks to an indestructible Union, composed of indestructible States." They ruled that no state may vote to leave the Union, period. Thus a forced union.

The Founding Fathers would be appalled.

What part of California do y'all live in? I travel to the Golden State quite a bit - Los Angeles (the Inland Empire), Sacramento, Stockton/Modesto, and up and down the I-5 corridor.

In fact, just the beginning of June I was in Oxnard, then went down to Irvine.

For all of it's problems, California is still the greatest place around! If I could live anywhere, I'd live in the mountains somewhere north of Redding near Mt. Shasta - beautiful country up there!

BTW - Welcome Aboard Californian, good to have you here!
