Australia doesn't need a whole lot of gun control.

Australia is basically an island, its a pretty good natural defense against an illegal smuggling. Plus its far away from countries like Russia and the US, which pump out guns in crazy numbers.

In Canada, most of our gun crime can be explained from the crates of illegal handguns which flow accross the border from the land of easily obtained legal guns, the US.

Australia is also extremely homogenious, so the ethnic tensions which we see in the US, Canada, UK, Europe, etc.. which is the roots of some violence does not occur there.

Australia's strict limitations on pump guns and semi-auto rifles and shotguns is hard to explain. These guns are usually hunting guns, and they are rarely even used by legal owners much less criminals. Licensing and registration I can understand, but the fact the the process is complex, expensive, and inconvient for individuals is unjustifiable. Restrictions on handguns is also understandable, but still, legal handgun owners usually aren't a problem, at least if we look at the example of Canada.

True gun control has almost no effect over here crime will be low regardless of wether gun control is on or off.

That's probably the best I've ever heard it put.
