If I had to pick only one woman who, given her attitude and projected personality, keeping in mind that I ignore arbitrary aesthetic standards (which change with the times anyway), is the most personally charming and the one I would most like to meet in some alternate reality, I would say Marlene Dietrich:

Greta Garbo was charming as well, but Dietrich had a certain edginess and humorous undertones that Garbo lacked, and Dietrich didn't have the tinge of sadness that Tallulah Bankhead's self-destructive lifestyle brings to mind. There was, is and always will be only one Dietrich. What can I say? I can't help it.
