No one takes Canada seriously as a military power.
Actually, Canada is the 6th biggest arms supplier to the world. So it shouldn't be much of a problem to rearm ourselves with great stuff.
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2007/...s.html?ref=rss

But I agree with your second statement, we aren't a serious military power.

Which is a huge disgrace, since after world war 2, we had the 3rd biggest Navy, including aircraft carriers. We were a huge contributor of troops, well-trained, during the first and second world wars, and we invaded on D-Day as many people forget. We also did our share in Korea.

The reason our military declined is because we have not had a military friendly government for the past 50 years. Now we finally do, our defence spending is going up. It will be good times for the military if this Conservative government ever gets a majority.

Translation, a war mongering government like that of the US. Can you give any good reason as to why we need to spend more on military spending. And don't say for defending our nation because we haven't had the need to defend our nation since WW2.

That link you provided is such a bad thing. Way to go Canada, let's be more like the US and provide everyone with arms. How can any country being invested in peace when they provide so many war tools and materials to others.

Canada was inches form being unable to meet your commitments to NATO..you also chose to fly the Cuban flag instead of your own nations
.SO whatever comrade.
I don't even have to wonder that most people in Canada don't like your opinions...though I am positive you will attach yourself to the bits you like just like the Far Left leech's in the USA in a vain attempt to make believe they do.

Well thats good. I still don't like the idea of any nation telling its allies "well we will do it until x date"..even if x date is far enough away that it can be scraped.
Timetables in War are simply not very bright.

So basically they can continue to extend the pull out date indefinitely.

So what? Check the U.S. Casualities in Iraq, please... Removing Canadian and British trooops from Iraq and Afganistan would be real nightmare for Americans there!

This was a unique situation though. The government commissioned a Liberal former deputy prime minister, John Manly, to lead a panel and write a report on whether or not to continue the mission.

The Manly panel came back saying we need more time in Afghanistan. So, the pressure on the Liberals to fall into line was substantial.

Theoretically, the date could be extended again. But the thought is, by 2011, the public support for the war will be in the dumpster to the extent that no panel or any amount of political compromise to extend the mission longer would work.

Good for Canada; Canada should not be the poodle of US policy like UK under Tony Blair

Wasn't this a UN sanctioned police action? anyway no offense to the canadians of this forum but your "military" presence, or lack thereof, in iraq is very un-important. look on the bright side though, in a war you're more useful then france.
