Perham,
this question is very similar to one i asked you about previously.
ahmadinejad is at it again and below you will see how his comments have been reported in the western press. however, i have also seen comments that he was referring to "zionism" rather than "israel" in his remarks, which does affect the understanding of what was actually said.
if this is something you can clarify, it would be appreciated.
Quote:
Iran's hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Thursday called Israel a "stinking corpse" which is doomed to disappear as the Jewish state celebrated its 60th anniversary.
"Those who think they can revive the stinking corpse of the usurping and fake Israeli regime by throwing a birthday party are seriously mistaken," Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying by the official IRNA news agency. "Today the reason for the Zionist regime's existence is questioned, and this regime is on its way to annihilation," he said.
Ahmadinejad added that Israel "has reached the end like a dead rat after being slapped by the Lebanese" -- a reference to the July-August 2006 war between Israel and the Shiite Hezbollah militia.

here's the original link to the IRNA's page:

I can't find any "israel" word in the link above, can you?
it's all about the zionist regime.

Perham, excellent thread, wonderful idea to create it.

First of all, I would just like to know what Muhammed was really like, as I have heard a few negative things. I am still waiting on my Muslim friends to answer me, and while I wait on them, I thought I would ask you.
What sort of person was he? Was he violent, abusive, etc?

Second, how do you feel knowing Islam is judged, and given a bad rap? Does it feel as if everyone is against you?

Lastly, what was the reaction to the September 11 attacks?

his biography from wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muhammad

a site about him:
http://www.theprophetmuhammad.org/

not at all. I couldn't find any violent point in his life, but instead I found much violence in his enemies, and yet I find it even in today's world.

islam is now being judged by the false propaganda from western countries. I believe that westerners should study more about islam to find out what's it about.

no, definitely not. many people accepted me here as a muslim, just some people that are full of hate, couldn't solve their issues and can't accept me as a friend.

many people sympathized with americans. civilian's death is always hurtful. no one gets happy by hearing such news.

thanks again. just as before, ahmadinejad speaks of the demise of a zionist regime and the western press picks that up incorrectly - as the nation of israel - the physical nation rather than the doctrine it follows.

the right wing then uses his purported statement as being an expression of iran's desire to exterminate the nation of israel

would you care to speculate why his words are so intentionally mischaracterized and by whom?

I don't know, war starts in media, to change the way people think about something. after this, the governments have the support of their nation. this way, they can justify the war morally, regardless of how much immoral it is in reality.

israel needs the continued political, finncial and armament support of the USA to sustain itself
the actions of the israeli government, especially its oppression against Palestinians and other disadvantaged people in the region, if made known to the American public, would cause a backlash against the israeli regime by Americans who characteristically side with the underdog
that potential to undermine American support must be of some concern to those who seek the continuation of israel's present oppressive regime
the Jewish population has a political - and media - influence which is greatly disproportionate to its number. that is what causes me to think that the misrepresentation of ahmadinejad's words is not unintentional

You can't find the word "Israel" in these statements because Israel is always referred to as "The Zionist regime" by your leaders.

Since Zionism refers to the movement that established a Jewish homeland, then by very nature, such references to "the Zionist regime" (or "Zionist entity") refer to Israel.

It would be quite impossible for any government in Israel to be NOT zionist.
