Default Spring Peeper

I live up on a ridge in the heavily wooded hills of Middle Tennessee. I have a 'frog pond' I build last year and tonight we have our first 'spring peeper' in the pond singing away.

Spring had sprung!!

We get:
Salamanders
Green Frogs
Wood Frogs
American Toads
Copes Grey Treefrogs
Eastern Narrow-mouthed Toads
Chorus Frogs

Sometimes the noise is surprisingly loud, I have counted well over 50 treefrogs in the pond on some nights last Summer and have even recorded the cacophonic sound.

[there is a subtle political message in all this]

Sounds like the sound of heaven. Now we just need a little bit whiskey and some home-made wine.

Oh, we have our first tadpoles of the season this morning!

Spring is much cooler [and wetter] this year than last, I hope Summer follows the same trend.

When I was a child you could hear crickets and frogs around here too, well, today you can hear cars and air planes and crickets and frogs are on the brink of extinction.

Mrs.BillyBob and I just got back from sitting at the edge of our pond with a flashlight. We counted over 20 American toads singing away, 3 'couples' and on the way back to our house we saw 4 more toads making their way to the pond. I picked them up and gave them a free ride to the water.

We have the windows open, the sound is amazing.

Here is an audio clip, imagine this times 20:

Last summer we vacationed over in Tennessee and South Carolina (I call it the eastern south). So many trees! I didn't like being surrounded by trees. I'm used to being able to see for miles and miles. We did stay in a nice cabin though... I figured ya'll would have a major insect problem what with all the greenery but Texas has you beat with our huge mosquitos etc.

I must have a couple thousand trees on my 5 acre lot and about 200 acres of woods surrounds that. Because of all the frogs, toads and bats, we don't have a mosquito problem at all!
