There seems little point in arguing; you will never convince a gun nut to part with his beloved firearms. The philosopher Schopenhauer advised against engaging in argument, maintaining that no one was ever convinced of anything by it other than their own opinions, however wrongheaded. In this regard, I recently had a discussion with a gentleman in a bar, who, during the course of conversation asserted flatly that he had a “God-given” right to own a gun. Prudence dictated that I not question what portion of the Scriptures he was relying upon for such “high” authority, as I was convinced that he would brook no argument on the subject.
