Im not sure, JP5, if Tony Blair made that comment about Jesus and the GIs. It appears - from Bombeni's original post - that the quotation marks are closed, then Bombeni proceeds to offer a concluding 'thought' for the day.

Maybe I am reading it wrong, but that seems to be the substance of it - any clarification, Bombeni?
I agree with your interpretation---and his conclusion. The American GI has fought and died for many reasons, many caused by mistakes of the same Europe which most of us escaped. Mr. Blair's courage under political fire is a tribute to him as a man and as a leader. The U.S. soldier's courage, however, is always under fire. Freedom has a lot of vocal enemies.
