Any word yet on what Chuckles' plans are for the future?

I still say he'd make an excellent VP choice for BHObama.

Icon14 update: Hagel with Obama in world tour.

Hagel with Obama in world tour.

Hmm...I'm thinking the Senator from Nebraska is gonna part of a BHO administration.

From an interview while Hagel was visiting the University of Florida:

Hagel said he thought the next president ought to appoint a person from the opposite party for one of the "big three" slots: secretaries of defense, treasury or state. He says he wouldn't rule out serving in any of the current candidates' cabinets.

"If I'd have an opportunity to play a significant role in a significant position - if all the right pieces were there - sure you'd have to consider something like that," Hagel said.

I said this way before Barack Obama even looked like he'd be the nominee, I said it would be Obama/Hagel for the Democrats in 2008.

That's still my prediction, but if it doesn't work out, Hagel will surely be Secretary of Defense.

Hagel is way too conservative on every other issue. It would do more harm than good. Conservatives wouldn't move toward Obama and some of the Hillary people would move to McCain. Plus the DNC doesn't really think highly of pro-life candidates. Hagel is to the right of both Bush and McCain.

I love how the left loves Hagel b/c he agrees with them and is willing to cross part lines but HATE Lieberman who does the same thing.

I've always liked Hagel, even if he is a seriously conservative pol. I said I'd consider voting for Hagel if he got the nod. No such luck, though.

An Obama/Hagel ticket would be fascinating. Strongly antiwar, of course, but otherwise an interesting fusion of opposites. I'd love to see it.

Why would Obama pick a VP that would be so controversial and such a risk? Maybe McCain who is thought to be trailing would do it but not Obama.

And the right does the same thing in reverse. What's your point?

We disagree with Hagel but we haven't thrown him under the Bus. We didn't back his opponent in his primary. The Obama supporters have yet to realize how to the right Hagel is, he is not a moderate Republican. While Lieberman was liberal he wasn't seen as far left while Hagel is far right.
