My first reaction to this story was quite the opposite. I thought that the leak was done with the full support and knowledge of Bush the Lame. The hoped for effect would have been to soften up the guy before the scheduled meeting. I think al-Maliki's cancellation of the tryst came as a surprise to the Bush bots.
