Muslim Bortherhood MPs expressed dismay and fury over the mistreatment of Pope Shenouda III at London Heathrow Airport on March 30th 2008 by security personnel. Shenouda was forced to take off his cap and shoes, screened by X-rays, and denied access to the VIP lounge as he always does.

Saber Abul-Fotouh, member of the MB parliamentary bloc, joined other independent MPs in submitting an urgent inquiry.

MPs called on Egypt"s Minister of Foreign Affairs to swiftly react to the event instead of ignoring it; adding that the same unacceptable measures have repeatedly taken place with renowned Muslim scholars in European and U.S. airports.

MB parliamentarians stressed that Pope Shenouda should be treated with high respect as a respectable religious figure who has millions of followers all over the world, adding that his humiliation requires strong Egyptian diplomatic reaction.

MPs called for a joint meeting between the foreign relations committee and the religious affairs committee to discuss the matter and decide on the next steps if the British Foreign Office refuses to offer an official apology.

Abul-Fotouh, alongside MB MPs Mahmoud Mujahid and Abdullah Eliwah; as well as Muhammad Abdl-Aleem Dawoud from Al- Wafd Party, Muhammad Abdul-Aziz Shaaban from Tajammu` Party, Saad Abboud from Al-Karamah Party, Dr. Jamal Zahran; independent, and Jamal al-Zeini from the ruling NDP, stated that it is unacceptable to overlook this incident, asserting that religious figures from different religions receive respectful treatment wherever they go.

Well, it is a bit outrageous to treat a Pope that way.... but that says nothing about how the average Christian human is treated in Egypt. One incident proves nothing. It is the overall picture that one needs to look at.

Here is one man's tale. The Rubbish People? They don't sound so RICH to me! Are you telling me this is a fairy tale?

Egypt's Christians

They are known as “The Rubbish People” because they as Christians collect Cairo’s rubbish, recycle it and make a bit of money to live on.

To do this, these Christians live daily in rummaging through Cairo’s stinking debris. Mixed in with the garbage are large rats, goats, skinny dogs and pigs. Muslims stay away from that area because they do not tolerate pigs.

Sometimes large rats eat away at sleeping Christian babies at night. The stench is unbelievable. Children grow up to conclude that separating rotting garbage will be their life jobs. These Christians live in and beneath piles of rubbish. There are ghetto building tops loaded layer upon layer with rubbish stinking under the day’s sun.

These Christians are abhorred by Cairo’s Muslims. Therefore, as long as they stay put in the garbage alleys miles upon miles long, they are ignored, left to the foul odor filling their nostrils every day and night.

There is a huge church hewn out of rock in this dump colony. The sanctuary is underground and can seat 12,000. Worshipers gather there for solace and encouragement in the faith. Sometimes there are liturgies for casting our demons and healing the sick.

It is impossible to get legitimate permission to build a Christian church in Egypt. All sorts of governmental barriers are constructed to inhibit Christians. Therefore, the believers carved out this mammoth stone worship space underground.

“Rubbish People.”

That’s what they are consigned by Muslims in Egypt. But in God’s sight, they are Egypt’s grace children. Jesus walks among them through the stacks of rotting junk towering high to border ugly back streets.

"The courageous over the infidels, make war for Allah and are not afraid... This is the depiction of the army of Allah that will come at Allah's decree, from here or from there, to liberate these lands from the defilement of the Jews, for Allah was angry with them in his book and called them once 'monkeys,' once 'swine,' and once 'donkeys.'"
