Default Nixon was not a conservative

First, the link doesn't relate in any way to the posted subject.

Second, Nixon deserves all the criticism that can be heaped upon him, he was a megalomaniac and flip-flopped everyone in the political spectrum.

Third, no true Conservative will ever have the blame for US involvement in a "limited war". By that I mean a true Conservative will always go to war when it is a REAL war, when we, the US, uses its full military force to overwhelm and win the war in the shortest possible time. Conservatives are either at war with all guns blazing, or we stay at home and keep out of trouble.

Fourth, no true Conservative would ever use price and wage controls to control the economy as Nixon did. Conservatives believe in limited governmental involvement in the private business sector.

Fifth, diplomatic engagement (as Nixon did with China) is one of the few foreign involvements that Conservatives support. For God's sake, if you can't talk to someone to resolve differences how can you ever get to know each other. His concessions on Taiwan were not in the US interest - although in truth, the confused status of Taiwan is the one thing that sees to have saved it and allowed it to become a strong democracy.

Sixth, no one ever uses the term paleoconservative, other than in a pejorative sense. It has no well defined or even commonly accepted definition. I suggest you use the term conservative when talking about people such as Eisenhower, and ultra-conservative when speaking about the likes of Pat Buchanan or Barry Goldwater. If you strive for accuracy, and not writing flair, the terms financial conservative, social conservative, and political conservative have much clearer definitions. Of course, neo-conservative has a clear meaning...but realistically does not come close to conservatives beliefs in any sense of the word. Probably a better term is "Fundamentalist-democratic fascist". http://www.oldamericancentury.org/14pts.htm
