Sorry, folks. But we've already tried the "ignore race and it will go away" policy through the fifties and much of the sixties (at least in the civilized parts of the country). Racism and bigotry continued.
There is a paradox. "Reverse discrimination" ends up doing more harm than good.. but it's purpose (which it fails at) is a noble one- to allow the children of xenophobes, bigots, and the isolated to grow familiar with those different from themselves and thus destroy racial BS.
It doesn't go away by continuing to isolate from one another, continuing to believe stereotypes, continuing to ignore the issues of disproportionate poverty and violence that hurt some more than others... and it doesn't help to play the politics of "white culture" (I truly hope, I-AM-THAT-I-AM, that this post is evidence of your turn against that counterproductive philosophy rather than another attempt to gain sympathizers for that cause from among the sane).
The problem we face is how to break from de facto segregation without the use of policies that call too much attention to division. It is a cultural issue. That is why government has so much trouble controlling it. Thankfully racism is still on the decline, mostly due to liberal education teaching that racial stereotypes and divides are socially constructed BS (at least there's something they do right). If it wasn't for that, most arguments against AA would not work, because racism would still be out of control. Now AA is a lag. It's time has passed, but it is difficult for those who were once oppressed to trust again... especially when the biggest proponents of that trust are the kind of nimrods that boast about "white pride" and try to keep racial stereotypes alive, while ignoring the problems that lag from a legacy of racial discrimination.
The problem is that now that racism is declining, it's time to switch to a new tactic for destroying the rest of it... before the reactionaries get out of control and return us to the days of the Klan.
