I was being sarcastic. I have never manned a Browing .50 calibre or any type of long range .50 BMG sniper weapon system. I have no clue what would happen. Maybe someone could enlighten us.

Back to licensing, I frequently use my license as an I.D. document for bars, casinos, stuff like this. Maybe other people care about their anonymity but it doesn't really bother me. It doesn't tell the government any more information than they already know about me, just that I have safety knowledge and want to legally obtain guns, which I am proud of.

Its the registry that is concerning, telling the govenrment exactly what types of guns someone owns. The registry for shotguns and rifles is obviously useless. Like you said before these guns are barely used in crime, they are mostly hunting guns. No reason to register them especially since it has costed so much and done so little.

It will be impossible for the government to use the registry to take away handguns in Canada. You might pass us off a niave, but the pro-gun movement in Canada is well aware and knowledgable about the crap Australia and Britain pulled, and how much of a failure that is. Most handgun owners are not going to roll over and let that happen here. We are actually lucky, the handgun registry probably could have been used for confiscation before, but not now knowing the lessons of those places.

a .50 cal rifle will rip you into pieces through cavitation were the bullet is large and has a cr@p load of energy behind it. When it hits you your body will split as it is forced away from the bullet.

Nope. Not so much. Say you are using a M2 Ball round. When it hits your body (even at close ranges) the temporary cavity will be between 200 and 500% larger than the projectile is wide. Meaning the largest temporary cavity you can expect would only be about 2.5 inches across. The only way a bullet can tear you in half would be if the temporary cavity is larger than you are wide. Hydrostatic shock does not break bones.

Typically, as has been found on the battlefield. the final entry wound is slightly smaller than the round is wide, and exits can range between .5 inches and 2 inches (only if the round yaws while in the body or it hits bone). FMJ does not deform very well.

Additionally. Even HEAIP rounds like the MK211 MOD0 will not literally tear you in half.

First off the round will only detonate in the body about 50% of the time.

Second it is a semi directed charge, meaning most of the very small blast is directed forward.

A few years ago we were working closely with the Army. One of their Bradley's had a ND with the 25mm. It hit a buddy of mine in the butt. It did not tear him in half. And he is still alive.

Bore. Sorry brother. I am used to people going on a rant about how magical the .50 cal is. It is not.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that I know more. But anyway.

The misleading of the capabilities of this weapon are part of the reason people fear it. People fear what they do not understand. So instead of learning about it. They ban it.

It is amazing how many people that are in the military actually believe the myths that surround this weapon. It is insane.

Like the myth that terrorists can shoot gas tanks on planes while in midair? do you think one would be able to remove a limb or a decent sized chunk out of someone?

If you ever get a chance, take a look at the old FMFM 6-5. It is an open source publication because it has been superceeded and is no longer used. But in that pub it will explain how to engage fast movers with SAF. It also says in that same chapter that engaging a fast mover with SAF is a very bad idea because you are unlikely to cause significant damage, and you have to lead the bird by between two and five football fields. Yes we have used .50 cals on our birds for air to air in the past. But even with shoddy construction, and the bird being smaller, it still took a ton of rounds to take one down. That argument they had in Cali about banning the .50 cal rifle is complete and utter BS. Even using HEAIP a commercial bird has so many redundant systems that you would have to do some serious damage to it. And hitting just hitting it would be more than difficult even for the best shooter in the world. And if you were able to hit the fuel tank with one HEAIP there would be too much fuel for the small blast from the round to create a FAE. It just is not going to happen.

Hell even taking down a helo with one shot is highly unlikely. Because as I understand it. Most birds now a days have dual engines and would still be able to fly to a safe landing if you took one of them out.

Now about taking off an arm or leg. Terminal ballistics is never an exact science. Odd things can happen. Say if the round hit a hard target first then entered while still at a fairly high velocity and is majority deformed, and the person you are shooting at is a toothpick, then maybe. But I have seen Insurgents hit in the legs and arms with them, and yes the doctors had to amputate later. But it never removed it on its own. In all honesty, there is no more reason to fear a .50 cal than a deer rifle. The deer rifle is more than likely more accurate. Maybe not out to the same distance. But you get my point.

Yeah its definetly one of the more stranger rumors. Theres also the one how terrorists like to use .50 cals! even though it would be completely out of there price range and terrible for close quarter combat..

.50 BMG is perfectly legal in Canada. Apparently the US government thinks there is something amazing about the .50, as the ATF refuses to issue export permits for .50 supplies. You are causing a severe shortage of .50 ammo, rifles, and reloading supplies in Canada. You are helping to cripple .50 sport shooting in my country.

Its still questionable whether they could or not. There has never been a Supreme Court of Canada case relating to gun rights before. There is already someone who is getting ready to challenge the Firearms Act to the Supreme Court, arguing that the Firearms Act (which includes all the registration, licensing, storage laws, etc...) violates several rights under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. It should determine the extent to which the government can impose gun control.
