Same for engineers and doctors. Why not art history majors? Because they do not give a proportional economic benefit. I already have enough people calling me at 6:30 PM to solicit a variety of things. Definitely no labor shortage there.
As for the guys & gals who do not go to college, trade school. We have far too few skilled tradesmen in many job markets.

Actually, as far as nursing goes, there are some wonderful programs out there right now. If you are willing to make the committment as a freshman in college you can basically get your degree paid for. As far as the other fields you mentioned, I'm not sure. There is something noble in labor jobs, it used to help define this nation as hard-working, honest, and reliable. We should do whatever we can to get back to that. maybe someday we can take pride again in the products made by Americans.
