According to Fortune Magazine, they are the largest corporation with revenues of $351B. Number six is Toyota woth $204B, less than 2/3rds as much. Coming in 6th in charitable donations when you have that kind of lead really isn't impressive.
do you think the world would be a better place without walmart giving any caritable money? if yes, maybe you should tell that to all the starving children they save every day.

As a percentage of profits they actually rank 24th accordind to Business Week. If they even moved into the top ten they would double their generosity (1.3% to 2.7%).

Not that this is a valid argument, but since you brought up the starving children, if Walmart moved into the top ten philanthropic companies based on percentage of profits, they would save twice as many children as they do now. Do you want to tell the children that they could save that it was more important for the Walmart family to have the 8th house in France than to feed them?

No Wal-Mart means less access to goods, more specialty instead of broad supply stores, and get this.. less employment.

Mom and pop stores don't have the money or need to hire tens of thousands of workers, Wal-Mart does. So when you destroy Wal-Mart, you take away millions of jobs and consumer options.

And then what? We're unemployed, demoralized, what would liberals do about this mess they made?

Why they'd increase government and blame republicans that's what they'd do. And people now with no money or no options, have whatever the government finds fit for them to have. Cause poor little citizens, they have nothing!

Well no (*)(*)(*)(*)ing duh they have nothing. You took away their jobs, their options, and their oppurtunities.

For people who are such pro-working class and pro-choice, they sure like screwing us over time and time again in these areas.
You make a great argument here. You don't want to shop there don't. At lest people have Jobs. Now if people would think about the Tabbaco companies the same way. Think of the millions of jobs that would be lost if Smokes were made illegal.

As a "conservative" against Wal*Mart I feel I have a unique opinion in all this. Yes, the retail chain needs to be put in it's place, but certainly not through government interference(unless influences by grassroot efforts).

It is up to consumers to not shop there. I don't. Wal*Mart being evil is a moot point, they are empowered by their customers which are influenced by the consumer culture that has been around since the roaring 20's.

I don't shop there and a inform others why I don't shop there and some people I get through too, others I do not, but I am doing what I can.

As a truck driver I must admit that WalMart is good to me. Instead of having to unload a trailer, I drop the loaded trailer in the lot at their Distribution Centers, get an empty, and are on my way within 30 minutes. My unproductive time is reduced to a minimum, and WalMart will accept the loaded trailer as quickly as I can get it there.

However, there are two things that I hate about WalMart --

1): I remember back in "the old days", when if there were more than three people standing in line at a cash register, they'd open up another line. Nowdays... fuhgeddaboudit.

2): Also, back in "the old days", you'd walk into a WalMart, and there'd be a poster of 40-some employees of a manufacturing plant stand around one of their products - say for example, a toaster oven. The text would explain how WalMart is having their toaster ovens made at this plant in, say... Hays, Kansas, and even though it costs a little more money, it keeps vital manufacturing jobs here in America and keeps our country strong. Nowdays... WalMart ought to change their name to "Pier One Imports" and be done with it.
