Only if he's kept in absolute isolation, away from the general population. Otherwise, he would likely suffer the same fate as Father John Geoghan and Jeffrey Dahmer, to mention a couple.

It seems the death penalty has come up. I'll chime in on a couple points.

1. Why should the emotional reaction I have to the crime make me pro-death penalty when I am against it? The point of the justice system is to remove that kind of thing from criminal justice. On the visceral level, I'm not going to complain about this guy getting killed by the chair or a bunch of prisoners... but as far as reason goes, I stick by my stance on the death penalty- against it.

2. If we have the death penalty, why should rape not be eligible for it? Rapists do a lot of damage to their victims and are often more likely to repeat their crimes than the average murderer- most murderers have rational reasons for killing compounded with a temporary loss of judgement- and usually feel remorse. I don't think many rapists fall into that category. They tend to view their victims as subhuman, their whims as justified, and they are usually more sick (killing can be quick and then it's over- can't undo it... Rape implies continued abuse of the suffering victim, much like torture).
While I'm not for the death penalty, I don't see why people of that sort should be spared while some one-time murderers with more promise of redemption are killed. It seems to me, someone capable of committing such a rape or mollestation is capable of murder

(That said there is the argument that treating rape as murder can increase instances where the rapist kills the victim... so I guess there is some sense, but it's pragmatic rather than moral).

He is at present in a double cell in the remand centre and does not even wish to leave the cell for his 1hrs exercise, even though it would involve no other inmates.

The other person he is shareing his cell withis charged with ,"a very violent crime" this other inmate stated he had no problem sharing a cell with Fritzl.

Fritzls commented there's plenty of room, you could fit a family of seven in here.

He then went back to his occupational therapy, digging a tunnel.
