I agree w/Marybeth
Until we the people rise up and destroy the two party system currently in place we will never have any say in this government. The candidates run on the same petty things all the time every election over and over - abortion, gun control - to woo votes. But whom they work for and what they do in office has nothing to do with the lowly voters, only 4% of whom give ANY money to the candidate and/or party and/or PACS. Our politicians are owned by the 1/10th of 1% of Americans who give upwards of $50,000 - that's who they work for and that's who they answer to.
I thought it would be a good time to refresh my memory about who owns GWB so I am re-reading Jim Hightower's "If the Gods Had Meant Us to Vote They Would Have Given Us Candidates" and while part of me is glad for the info, a LOT of me is just depressed and disheartened by the whole thing because I can't see the American people rising up to take back the gov't.
It's not just apathy - it's also ignorance and lack of energy and organization and the fact that people don't make this a priority in their life.
The middle class is dying and America will be left a third world country like Iraq - the rich in power and the people living in poverty.
Remember people a "plutocracy" doesn't mean we're ruled by a far-off planet. (smirk)
