I don't think convicts should be allowed to vote. While imprisioned, they are not a contributing part of society, they are wards of the state. They are denied the pleasure of making decisions as part of their punishment.

No, they don't. They shouldn't have a say in society's future until they are once again part of that society.

These people are not allowed to decide what or when to eat, when to sleep, when to shower. It is part of their punishment. Do to their past decisions, they have been put into the custody of the state, much the same way a child would be when orphaned (not the best anology, I know). They have guardians who decide for them. If the decisions they make have put them into that situation, then have no business voting for anything.

Well, if the Government says that everyone must vote on election day, they must mean it is a right, or else they would give us the option of not voting?

Well Americans are given the option not to vote, we aren't talking about the same country are we? Because if it is the United States to which you are referring, the Govt doesn't mandate that anyone vote.

The United States is different with it's voting system. However, if an inmate in the US should decide to vote, then I do not see any reason why they should not.

Prisoners should never have the right to vote. They gave up their rights in this society when they committed a crime. As far as I'm concerned prisoners have far more rights to do things than I believe they should.

I agree, we should go back to the days of chain gangs and tent camps for inmates. They should also be self sustaining, meaning growing the food they consume. No luxuries whatsoever, prison should be such an awful place that you never ever want to go back.
