Ready, shoot, aim... Have we heard from the Iranians on this incident yet? I was in the Navy - in the Persian Gulf for 18 months. That was back when the US had one ship in the whole area: the only white ship in the Navy. It was a converted seaplane tender (that's old). It was bristling with antennae and parabolic dishes, but our mission was to "show the flag around the Indian Ocean.
You can never know the true mission of any ship. If it is confidential, secret or top secret, every Navy in the whole world will deny any wrongdoing, especially spying. The area where the incident happened is a pretty sensitive area right now. Lots of ship traffic traveling around there, carrying cargo such as petroleum, legal military armaments, and perhaps illegal stuff as well. I'm pretty sure both the Brits and the US both want to know keep track of what types of ships are coming and going in the region.
Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty sure the Iranians took those Brits captive for a purpose. But it is the never ending game of cat and mouse. Isn't the US playing the same game by taking Iranian hostages from the Iran Embassy. Oh, but they were terrorists...or helping terrorists.
Its all a joke. What the he!l are we and the British doing in that part of the world that could be worth all of these diplomatic headaches. Oh yea, looking for terrorists. Or is it trying to stop Iran from "going nuclear". I know it may seem logical to some people, but have you noticed how tensions ratchet up in the whole world when a superpower and her allies start playing Don Quixote?
