Bush: I quit golf over Iraq war

POTUS George W. Bush said that he quit playing golf in 2003 out of respect for the families of US soldiers killed in the conflict in Iraq, now in its sixth year.
"I think playing golf during a war just sends the wrong signal," he said

I like most people like the sentiment in the paragragh below but I just cannot bring myself to believe that this POTUS actually did this for the reason he stated.
.
"I don't want some mom whose son may have recently died to see the commander-in-chief playing golf," he said. "I feel I owe it to the families to be in solidarity as best as I can with them - said the Bush guy!!

Remember when Michael Moore made the film that showed Bush playing golf with his Dad---and condemning him for "playing golf" while some military personnel were dying in Iraq? Maybe he didn't like the way he was portrayed?

AS IF Dwight Eisenhower or any other American president gave it up during a war. Fine, if he feels it important, but I don't think it's necessary.

Dwight Eisenhower got the Korean war over with the armistice (ceasefire agreement) signed in July 1953 so he did not have too much war to deal with. There was no actual war during the rest of Ike's reign only some piddle paddle in Lebanon. I wish that my Dad was still alive because I would ask him if the Democrats called Ike a "cut and runner" for ending the war in Korea!! Somehow I do not thing so !! But if Truman ended the Korean War the Neocons would still be calling him a "cut and runner" in his grave!!!!

Winning the Korean war could have lead to nuclear war. Not winning the war in the Middle East could lead to nuclear tension that the world has not seen for years. Iraq is pivotal in sending messages to Iran and other extremest countries.

The situation was a hypothetical where we did win. I wasn't saying we have already.

Anyway, we are "still" in a lot of places in which we won wars. I don't think continued presence is an indicator of losing.

Please don't turn this into ANOTHER Iraq War debate. Both sides have seen practically all there is to argue about, and I don't want to go through it again.

Sounds like Moore got under his skin...

He'll probably have more time to the sequel, which will be out next year.
