I have yet to meet a religion that didn't serve a political agenda. Even the earliest idol-worshipping religions did, and it was mainly a deal about some guys who figured out how to do some magical tricks that others couldn't figure out and told everybody that the gods would squish 'em if they didn't bow in shock-n-awe to these human beings.
There may be religions that started out political and then decided to be anti-political, but they were political to become anti-political (like the various branches of Buddhism, originally being anti-Hindu).
The funniest thing I find about American protestant evangelicals is that they're chanting in unison to look at the religious heritage of the U.S.--Puritan--while thumping their King James Bibles. King James was the primary persecutors of Puritans, which is why they came to the U.S. in the first place.
