Sir Terry Wogan disgruntled at Eurovision

My wife and I watched the whole show from Spain. The Spanish entry was pathetic, so we were not surprised that our entry did not feature in the votes. My wife placed Russia 1st and Greece 2nd, while I placed Greece 3rd. So, according to our meagre music knowledge, the top 2 songs appeared in the top 3. A great success!! We liked those songs.

Not according to Sir Terry. He pointed out that Scandinavian countries TEND to vote for their colleagues and that Balkan countries did the same. He did not bother to pose the obvious question - why did Finland vote for Russia given their belicose history, and why did Balkan countries vote for others with whom they had fought bitter wars.

Sir Terry's commentary was apalling. It was full of snide remarks and petty bigotry. I applaud his threat to step down. The bugger is a jingoist bigoted racialist upper class British twit.

It never passed through his head that states voting for other states close to them, even recent war opponents, might be a cultural issue in that their tastes have evolved through time to LIKE THE SAME SORT OF MUSIC.

Step down Sir Terry. You are a relic of a bygone age - I hope. You are not needed.

Wogan is Irish, not British. And the word you are looking for is racist not racialist. Who is the real idiot?

But "idiot"? Isn't that a strong word for someone who posted a few observations that have received only trivial rebuttal? I was trying to look for motives beyond mere jingoism.
