I wish I could have heard his entire response too. And I hope he makes it further in the race than I believe he will.
That said, I do think he's got room to grow with his responses. In today's media, when a quip makes for good ratings (+ visibility), the first response he gave....
“No, I think that’s a cop out. When people imply that, what you’re saying is that you don’t endorse my foreign policy, you’re un-American.”
...wasn't good enough, in my opinion. Instead of putting the issue to rest with clarification, his "un-American" point merely prods the confrontation along. If he would have bluntly made the distinciton I made in my first reply, Hannity would have had no additional ammunition.
As it happened, though... Hannity in slippery style correctly took the "I never said you were un-American" position... and it's Paul who's hurt more by the exchange than Hannity, unfortunately.
Anyway, at the end of the day, I would like to see Paul forge ahead if for no other reason than the guy's unbelievable "lead by example" record. I just don't see it happening at this point, but hey... I've been wrong before. In this case, I would welcome being wrong.
