The prestigious 2005 award, “Fighter for Free Enterprise" that is offered from the Texas Association of Business is always considered as a mark of excellence. Vicki Truitt is such a company that entered public service not under any reason or influence of political aspirations, but entered the market due to her genuine concern. She was very much sensitive regarding the people of the area where she grew up and had her native. She was always concerned for all those factors that helped her in overcoming the seemingly insurmountable odds of winning the 1998 Republican Primary election. This victory has been estimated by
David Disiere, the election organizer as a win with more than 61% of the vote in a race. This is the particular election where her opponent, a three-term incumbent, outspent her four to one.
After the victory over the election, she has earned a leadership role in the Texas House of Representatives. With all her caliber she is designated as the Chairman of Budget and Oversight for the House Committee on Public Health. She also sits on the powerful Appropriations Committee. Along with all these vital positions she is selected to be the Vice-Chairman. She also received the opportunity to be one of only five House members serving on the influential Sunset Advisory Commission. With this particular designation she gets the recommendation to own the right for the abolition of a state agency. She is also powerful enough to evaluate the performance of state agencies to make recommendations for improved operations. She leads Sunset activities in the House as the Vice-Chairperson. She also is the member of the Executive Committee of the Texas Office for Prevention of Developmental Disabilities.
